About the Book
An African epic, Rebuke the Wind begins in France, sweeps through the United States, Iraq, Morocco, Nigeria and Cameroon to the Arab gulf and the source of terror financing. At the center of the story is Isa, a remarkable 14-year-old from Cameroon who, having been kidnapped by Boko Haram, defies the terrorists with her own escape and her breathtaking rescue of a Frenchman also held hostage.
The novel paints a vivid portrait of her knowledge of the African bush, as well as her courage, faith and determination as she confronts the world’s largest terrorist organization. Providing texture to the story are brave US, UK and Indian private security teams, seemingly soulless child soldiers of Boko Haram, corrupt Nigerian military, Saudi terrorist financiers, Kenyan money-launderers and the international politics of terror.
Rebuke the Wind is more than a good read. It is a tribute to the people of the Sahel, particularly the young women who have been victimized by Boko Haram and left largely unknown behind the headlines. All proceeds that would go to the author will be going directly to a charity in Cameroon to support young women in the Sahel. The style is simple and fast, suitable for Young Adult and Adult readers.
Reviews
Rebuke the Wind is an inspiring and ultimately, hopeful novel but it presents a cynical view of the realities of terrorism, driven and facilitated by money, not ideology. Around the only-partly fictionalized account of Isa, the 14-year old heroine kidnapped by Boko Haram, the author reveals the mechanics of terrorist financing, corruption, political machinations and motivations that allow this horror to happen. As a former prosecutor of terrorism cases based in Africa, I can say this book is riveting, it resonates, and it’s real.”
Wendy Wysong, Former US Prosecutor
“My biggest fascination was the accurate representation of the beautiful Sahara culture as it is a huge part of my identity, but my connection with the book didn’t stop there.
– Roula Abdulhai, Syria
Liked this book a hell of a lot! After starting to read, the involvement and emotions are so strong that you cannot stop until the end.

I’ve experienced the real-life drama of hostage taking up close. Rebuke the Wind not only transported me back in time but across the Atlantic to experience a next level hostage drama playing out in Africa. It is a gripping, edge of your seat read that leaves readers cheering on the hostages as their drama vividly plays out, page after page.

“Rebuke the Wind is an incredibly exciting look into the inner workings of Boko Haram, into bushcraft of the African Sahel, and into the emotional impacts of terrorism on its victims and society. The book presents a deeply compelling series of true-to-life events while giving the reader a thorough education of the details involved in conflicts and life in this part of Africa. I can’t wait to read the next book!”

A fascinating story about the deadly Sahel region of West Africa – the home of Boko Haram. Suspenseful, terrifying, beginning to end, it tells the story of a courageous young African girl, Isa. The author provides insightful information on this region, the sad story of the boys of Boko Harem and how this terrorist group is funded. The author’s staccato writing style provides an edge indicative of the region. Recommend.
